About this artwork
Work made on canvas board with liquid acrylic colors and a "recycled" material, poppy seeds, which enriches and embellishes the work, creating a tactile dialogue on the canvas. Putting aside the roughness of rippled surfaces, this time the contrast between the different material textures is entrusted to this particular detail. The chromatic contrast between the two predominant colors, carmine red and dark turquoise, is also clear, toned down and… balanced by spots of gold that emerge here and there between the black poppy seeds, and make their way like the light that tries to emerge on the surface, inviting the observer to imagine what the final outcome of this conflict will be.
Trained by a renowned Sicilian artist and with a degree in cultural heritage conservation, Simona Messina works with brushes, palette knives, and acrylics. Shifting from figurative representation to abstraction, her works are layered, influenced by the sign painting of Hans Hartung and the energy of Pollock, with the occasional addition of charcoal and gold leaf. The poetics of contrast dominates her art, manifesting itself in dualisms between light and shadow, form and material, smooth and rough surfaces. The end result is unique abstract works that integrate seamlessly into contemporary design spaces. Each painting is designed to transform sophisticated spaces, adding a touch of exclusivity and personality. Significant professional experience in the world of design has enriched her artistic practice, where it is clear that her love of art blends perfectly with her passion for home decor.
