About this artwork
I once had a funny idea. We jot down thoughts and to-do lists on sticky notes that, ironically, are never sticky enough. What if I used them to capture shadows instead — fleeting silhouettes frozen on paper — as a way to reflect the passage of time and the moments that never quite stick?
Ulla Žibert, a painter and visual artist with a background in sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana, uses both painting and sculptural concepts to explore perception. She intertwines mimetic and refined flatness, distorting shadows and familiar everyday motifs to create playful, conceptually rich spaces where reality and illusion collide. Her works provoke the viewer to question habitual perceptions and surface realities. With nuanced wordplay and unexpected visual shifts, she conveys a sense of subtle instability, inspiring viewers to find meaning in the seemingly ordinary and inviting contemplation long after experiencing her art.
