About this artwork
This painting is inspired by travelling through Flanders, seeing the fields of poppies and a most inspiring poem by John McCrae " In Flanders Fields" My strokes, layering acrylic and oil, evoke a visceral response, blending chaos and order.
I placed layers of contrasting reds including carmine, magenta, terracotta, orange, metallic copper , azure blues and purple. The metallic copper paint cause an almost shimmering effect like a light breeze coming… through the poppies at sunset. Within its abstract depths, I've captured a spectrum of passion and serenity that, I hope, resonates a powerful energy, infusing your space with a dynamic balance of warmth and contemplation.

Vania Bouwmeester Pentcheva is an established Bulgarian artist based in the Netherlands who has exhibited her work nationally, as well as in South Africa. Moved and inspired by nature, including its presence in urban landscapes, she explores her emotions, memories and philosophical thoughts through the composition of abstract paintings full of dynamic shapes and colours. Textures and colours spontaneously arrive on the canvas, though structured layering is carefully thought out.
