Tree of Life. The Axis of the Worlds - curated by Raffaella Nobili

A curation by Raffaella Nobili, Owner and curator at Paraventi Giapponesi - This curation brings together works inspired by the iconography of the tree of life, a universal symbol that spans diverse cultures, from ancient civilizations to the present. With its roots in the earth and branches reaching toward the sky, the tree embodies the cosmic axis connecting the microcosm and the macrocosm, life and rebirth. Its image is powerfully evident in Middle Eastern art: from Mesopotamian and biblical myths to medieval illuminated manuscripts, from Persian carpets to Islamic decorations. A motif that remains relevant and finds a poetic echo in Sergei Paradžanov's film The Color of Pomegranates, where the pomegranate becomes a metaphor for fertility and cyclicality, evoking the same imagery of cosmic regeneration.
