Antonis Giakoumakis, geboren in Athene, gebruikt olieverf, acrylverf, inkt en houtskool. Zijn intense, vaak donkere stijl combineert schilderkunst met fysieke technieken - krassen, gummen, lagen aanbrengen. Zijn werk, rauwe existentiële expressies, toont vervormde figuren die lichaamsafdrukken, innerlijke ineenstorting en psychologische afwezigheid suggereren. Deze diepgaande werken wekken een blijvende indruk van spanning en raadsel op de toeschouwer.
Verklaring van de kunstenaar:
“Ik creëer gebarentaalachtige, lichamelijke beelden waarin de figuur niet als een portret verschijnt, maar als een restant van druk, erosie en psychologische spanning.
Mijn schilderijen en tekeningen ontstaan door krassen, lagen aanbrengen, uitwissen en herhaaldelijke aanvallen op het oppervlak.
Ik ben geïnteresseerd in het moment waarop het beeld instort, waarop er uit de wanorde een aanwezigheid ontstaat.
Elk werk is een spoor van innerlijke ineenstorting, iets tussen een lichaam, een wond en materie.”
