About this artwork
Good Guy is a portrait about a different kind of strength. With this painting, I did not want to portray the exotic outsider or the criminal with the hard story. I wanted to paint the good guy you know from everyday life, the strong presence who still belongs to the good side: the big brother, the loyal friend, the person you trust.
Through my semi-abstract portraits, a combination of contemporary design language and classical painting, I reduce… the figure into something more universal. The person becomes less of a specific individual and more of an archetype, a familiar character we all recognize. Not a portrait of one man, but of a certain kind of human energy: grounded, protective, and quietly strong.
The vivid colors reflect the positive nature of the character itself. Bright tones and soft transitions create a warm, uplifting energy that radiates beyond the canvas, balancing strength with openness and humanity.
Max Eckhardt paints with oils and incorporates his experience in design and engineering into his work. His technique combines structured composition with free, expressive brushstrokes; his style is balanced, clear, and elegant. With his paintings, he aims to spread optimism and joy, and to evoke hope and encouragement in the viewer through serene yet vibrant portraits.
