From 1980 to 1988, he completed a traditional photography apprenticeship and attended the photography class at the Johannes Gutenberg School in Stuttgart. Since 1989, he has worked freelance as a photo designer and photographic artist in Frankfurt am Main.
Chris Kister's work focuses on two independent thematic areas: abstraction and artistic portraiture.
In his independent work, he often uses photography merely as a starting point: through targeted photographic techniques, complex collage methods, and subtle digital manipulation, he creates images whose aesthetic consciously seeks a connection to painting and graphic art. In his abstract work, Kister utilizes the interplay of different levels to create visual worlds that transcend mere objective representation. His style is characterized by enigmatic realism and abstraction. In his works, he aims to create emotional images that allow for multifaceted meanings.
