Dominic Welch is an experienced, prizewinning artist from the UK. In his sculptural practice, Welch works spontaneously on the uncut block, drawing in charcoal or tracing with his finger designs upon its surface to discover the shape within. He begins cutting and refining the the shape by instinct. The taut, sleek shapes of his sculptures contract with his dense, heavy medium and seem to defy gravity.
