EMMA KARILA

Emma Karila is a painter and sculptor who uses paper, clay and pigment as mediums in her exploration of nature. Her technique combines abstraction, minimalism and figuration, and is translated by the traditional Japanese use of paper making, which she sculpts in a wet state, thus creating an artistic cartography. Her work, rich in symbols such as the Tree of Life, expresses the deep links between nature and human destiny, questions the choices that shape our lives, and translates a quest for an echo of the soul in each leaf, each bark.
