« Using abstruse - but personal - experiences, to make sense of the inexplicable. I repurpose, in visual and aural form, the notion that there is always more than the eye can see. »
The central theme in Gail Cooper's works surrounds the Kantian word 'noumena', which is the belief in something that is not tangible or able to be seen. The American painter attempts to translate her own incredible experiences, as a way of defining the inexplicable. Cooper's abstract pieces can take up to six months to complete, as she uses the wet on wet technique, employing multiple layers of oils.
