Gier is a self-taught artist whose work, driven by drawing and painting, sensitively questions the forms of living things, their interrelations and their confrontations.
On paper, he favours black and white, sometimes crossed with bright colours, and readily inscribes words in the pictorial material.
His figurative universe, driven by a rigorous, highly precise style, and by the search for the right line, the perfect line, movement, power and elegance, unfolds monumental animal forms, uprooted trees and powerful human bodies.
Through his works, he highlights the tension of life; its power, its fragility, its resilience, an oscillation between beauty and threat, protection and collapse.
His gaze questions the place of beings in the universe, the mutations of human relationships, solitude and pain, while arousing an intimate confrontation between wonder and questioning.
