« The interplay of light and space with color and pattern creates an optical magic. »
Joan Konkel is an accomplished American painter and sculptor whose work has widely featured in prizes, exhibitions, publications and collections across the US. Her work unchains color from canvas, releasing it to transform as it travels through painted strands of finely woven mesh. This allows the composition to become a visual labyrinth, infused with an impressive luminosity and energized with shifting colors and patterns. Konkel ultimately seeks for this labyrinth to capture a bit of the magic and joy of the mysterious world we live in.
