Johann Groebner is a painter with a background in art from Emily Carr University and cultural anthropology studies. He utilizes pop expressionism, historical allusions, and a mix of techniques such as glazing, impasto, and alla prima, merging humorous narrative memes with expressive, emotive landscapes. His allegorical and archival works oscillate between surreal socio-political commentary and deeply felt natural scenes, drawing the viewer into complex, fragmentary memories and emotive reflections on history, truth, and presence.
