Julia Holtmann is a German visual artist based in Spain, holding an MFA from the University of Málaga, Spain and a BA from the University of Applied Sciences Hamburg, Germany. She works primarily with graphite drawing, often incorporating natural materials into her practice. Her art is characterized by ritualistic, automatic drawing, exploring opposing forces such as revelation and concealment and employing techniques like blind drawing and overwriting to delve into consciousness and trauma. Through ambiguous abstractions that straddle the familiar and the enigmatic, she creates evocative, layered imagery. Her art radiates both tension and serenity, inviting viewers into a contemplative confrontation with reality and the complexity of human experience.
