Laurence Lejay is a French painter, a graduate of the Beaux-Arts in Paris, where she lives and works. After her studies, she worked as a textile designer in the Anne de Solage design studio.
She is represented by the Cécile Dufay gallery in Paris.
Drawing on memories, she creates fantastical universes that blur the lines between fiction and reality, giving birth to a dreamlike world tinged with humor. In festive or intimate scenes, the mischievousness of animals mingles with the coquettishness of the feminine. Above all, it is the expressiveness of animals and humans, and their interactions, that are dear to her heart. Her inspiration stems from this connection, but also from her attachment to and distance from certain regions (the Limousin and the Ardennes). The resulting waves of nostalgia become one of the driving forces behind her work.
She paints with contrasting techniques: ink and oil (a technique derived from van Eyck) which gives great vibrancy and quality to the whole.
