Louise Primi Simone is a Canadian visual artist based in Montreal. Trained as a painter, digital artist, and photographer, she develops a contemporary figurative body of work centered on humanity, emotion, and light.
Alongside her husband and artistic partner, Joseph Simone, she built an international career in portrait photography starting in the 1980s. Winner of numerous awards, Louise became the first woman named Photographer of the Year in Canada in 1983.
Today, she translates this experience into a practice that blends oil painting, cold wax, mixed media, and digital painting. The human figure, particularly the female figure, remains at the heart of her world. Between figuration and suggestion, she explores intimacy, memory, femininity, and the passage of time through matter, transparencies, and light.
"I'm not just trying to create an image, but a presence, an emotion that endures."
