« The artist's job is to 'make pretty' - sometimes pretty things, other times beautiful ideas. I strive to do both. »
Mac Hillenbrand enjoys the challenge of creating paintings out of wood and resin. The American artist uses woodgrain to represent oceanic texture by finding the 'waves' in the wood. Hillenbrand's pieces explore the cosmic parallel between how water moving through the grain of a tree employs the same physics as a wave hitting the coastline, refracting around a reef.
