Mayke Verhoeven is an exciting Dutch sculptor and printmaker who has exhibited her work in Mexico, the Netherlands and France. Two important themes in her work are vulnerability and memories, which she primarily explores through Vanitas pieces. She seeks to make personal stories universal by using recognizable objects, and frequently links her work to 19th century Romanticism's longing for the past and glorification of loneliness. Verhoeven's works possess a quiet character and offer the viewer room for various interpretations.
