Philip Frey, an award-winning American painter, works within the central themes of color and light, regardless of the subject matter. Recurring motifs in his compositions include literal or figurative doorways, as well as light being edited through shapes and forms, whether landscape or interior. Frey creates mainly using oils on canvas or linen, utilizing brushes, palette knives and squeegee. He paints in plein air, from references photos and from life, in his studio pieces.
