« I am fascinated with the human power of survival, our adaptability and our will to persevere in spite of difficult conditions and challenges that life puts in front of us. »
Istanbul based photographer, Rena Effendi, was born in Baku, Azerbaijan, in the USSR. Throughout her youth, she witnessed the political and economical turmoil of her country in its struggle to seek independence. Photography was like a coping mechanism. From a young age, Effendi’s photographs have helped her to make sense of her sombre surroundings.
