Roger Drouin, a self-taught artist with a background in figurative drawing, has explored first reverse drawing, then photography, and now laser-cut steel (and sometimes plexiglass) sculpture. After a long journey punctuated by periods of rest and renewal, he has refined his mastery of gesture and uses the "major line" technique—a single, simplified stroke—to infuse dynamism and movement into diverse themes such as musicians, athletes, and horses. Through his refined works, he conveys a luminous and delicate energy, inviting the viewer to feel the quiet strength of forms in dialogue with light.
Each of his works is referenced by year and order number in a catalogue. He deliberately opts for a production, most often in "original" series (8+4 EA) but with varied patinas and which comes in as many series as sizes: "desk", "garden", or "monumental"; more rarely "multiple" or "unique piece".
