Salvator Rosa

Salvator Rosa, the Italian Baroque virtuoso, used paint to translate his multifaceted background as a poet, satirist, and musician into hauntingly romanticized landscapes and history paintings. His canvases teem with dramatic brushwork and a penchant for the esoteric, framing nature as a vast, sublime theatre where humanity is but a silhouette against its grandiosity. His art stirs a sense of awe and melancholy, weaving the wildness of the natural world with the turbulence of human emotion.
