« I do consider painting and drawing to be, primarily, spiritual activity. You have to be interested in the truth, for one thing, you have to gather yourself and lose yourself to the truth, as you see it. »

American artist Samuel Raffa has always had a vivid imagination. For him painting is a process of rejuvenation, drawing his subjects from those he admires and his feelings about them his artworks are fully realised in his mind before they are transferred to the canvas.
Working intricately with pencil and more amorphously with paints and airbrushes his canvases are emotive and serene. Transporting the viewer into a setting which is both mystical and grounded in the present.
