Yulia Babanova

Yulia Babanova is a multidisciplinary artist based between London and Bali, whose work bridges the realms of ancient myth and contemporary mysticism. Drawing inspiration from lost civilizations like Atlantis and Lemuria, Yulia reimagines forgotten worlds through her art, blending classical oil painting techniques such as glazing and impasto with unconventional materials like volcanic sand, crystals, and even baking flour. These elements infuse her work with a raw, tactile quality, making each piece feel like an archaeological discovery—relics of ancient, magical rituals.

Her compositions often incorporate sacred symbols from mythology, as well as a personal, ciphered alphabet she created at age eleven. Each painting becomes an artefact from an imagined past, imbued with its own story. Meticulously crafted sections of her works are sometimes deliberately destroyed or obscured, symbolising cycles of destruction and rebirth, a nod to the transient nature of history.
