"I've always been drawn to performing arts. In the '75s, I was doing a lot of rock scene photography. Rock, like most young people of our generation, was a major part of our lives.
My encounters with Jean-Pierre Leloir in the 80s, confirmed me in the idea that photography (even more that of spectacle), posed the problem of reality in other words: to photograph a reality which is already… a stake. on stage, it is to produce a subjective reality.
Rock was that: to restore a certain version of my reality combined with energy as pure material.
Apart from the big stars of the previous generation, most of them in the '75s were kids. Kids photographed by a kid.
It was time that made them icons. "
« To clarify my thinking, to try to construct and reveal my relationship with the other by, as Nietzsche recommends, "listening to the music of the world". »
Évelyne Coutas is an award-winning photographer based in France whose works have been featured in solo and group exhibitions nationally. She describes all of the elements that make up her works as being about substance. For Coutas, photography is a "matter to think about", it is this matter that comes before form. She believes that "to work with the substance of things is to engage with the subject in the most elementary relationship possible".
