About this artwork
From the mineral peaks of the Alps, final points of a long and sometimes perilous route, we sometimes forget the world below, the one with which the journey begins. The forest most often marks the beginning of the walk, zero space / time.
Thus the forest, the profusion of plants are at the origin of the rock and the glaciers of the world above.
Conversely the seasons regress in time over the course of the walk, the summer of the undergrowth will… succeed the winter of the peaks.
An initiatory journey in resonance with ancient materialist philosophy, playing with the logics of nature and its principle of necessity.

Évelyne Coutas is an award-winning photographer based in France whose works have been featured in solo and group exhibitions nationally. She describes all of the elements that make up her works as being about substance. For Coutas, photography is a "matter to think about", it is this matter that comes before form. She believes that "to work with the substance of things is to engage with the subject in the most elementary relationship possible".
