About this artwork
The fabric artwork titled "Rio" is a piece inspired by the duality of life and death, the flow of energy and the abundance of nature. It celebrates the sacredness of being alive and comniones a wide range of different textures and techniques. The lower right part is a collage of fabric pieces that were sewn together by hand and the painted flower element was painted by the artist Kottie Paloma, whom I have collborated with several times in the past.…
The white cotton fabeic that rsembles marble is from a bed sheet that I buried in the soil of my friends' property in Los Angeles for 7 months. The micro organisms in the soil left their traces in the fabric and are a metaphor for the decomposition of the physical that all beings leave behind when crossing to the other side.
Materials: Polyester fabricy, sequins, buried bed sheet, oil pastel, bleach, acrylic paint, drop cloth, and cotton fabrics over stretched canvas
