About this artwork
The painting received the award of the Board of the ZPAP Toruń District in the Annale 2024/2025 competition organized by the Association of Polish Visual Artists of the Toruń District in Poland. The painting entitled 1st of May is a critical and symbolic commentary on the contemporary socio-political situation in Poland.
In the march under red banners, figures with masked faces move - chess pieces (kings, pawns, queens) mingle with a grotesque clown.… These are not participants of the Labor Day - this is an allegory of power, illusion, the game of appearances and hidden roles.
The painting is varnished. The sides are painted in the color of the background. The painting will be available for sale after 19.07. It is currently in the Gallery at the exhibition in Toruń
