About this artwork
At the heart of my work lies the coexistence of humans and nature. Through flowers, insects, and small living beings, I explore our relationship with the natural world and invite viewers to rediscover a sense of inner purity.
This theme echoes the spirit of The Little Prince, where the bonds between the prince, the rose, and the fox embody innocence and beauty. Yet unlike the fragile, prideful rose in the story, the flowers in my paintings remain… by the girl’s side, offering unconditional love and joy.
Like blossoms we encounter on the roadside or in a flower shop quietly comforting us without asking for anything in return the flowers in my work become symbols of boundless consolation and love.
Ahyoung Ryu is a painter with a rich background in Western painting, drawing inspiration from her mother's artistry and academic training in fine arts. She employs delicate, multilayered washes to create luminous works that blend contemporary romanticism, neo-pop, and Eastern literati aesthetics, often featuring children in quiet communion with nature. Her art reflects on innocence, lost connections, and the gentle coexistence between humanity and the natural world. Ryu’s paintings evoke comfort, peace, and a wistful longing, inviting viewers to rediscover the child within and embrace the quiet beauty of simple, sincere relationships.
