About this artwork
The Angels and Demons series was born after an artistic residency in Japan. The meeting of a culture made of the impalpable presence of the dead, the lanterns slipped on the water ... This force of the memory which continues to live places led me to work on the memory which remains inscribed in the body and the mind. This series represents a search on an inner and spiritual plane, more than an observation of the world. It's a series about emotions…
and the memory of emotions. On the canvas, in the midst of indistinct or geometric colored shapes, images and figures are formed, as if recovered from memory. These are nodes of emotions that emerge from the past, even if the image / emotion match is not rationalized. Thus images inspired by Japanese art bring back a joy or a suffering from a distant past that belong to me.

« Before starting to paint, the canvas is already full and I can only think by images. The confrontation with the raw canvas then involves the need to eliminate any apparent ease. »
Alain Cabot is an experienced artist from France whose works have been featured in exhibitions internationally. Working in mixed media, Cabot explores the concept of hybridization in his paintings, combining collage, paper, paints, and other raw materials glued onto the canvas. This concept transfers to his subject matter as well, as he superimposes an imaginary world onto reality, giving each work an unresolved opposition.
