About this artwork
Scavenged from the beach skirted by the Indian Ocean, I found the pieces which I compiled into something of a primitive ancient Idol, which could have been worshiped in Sepik, PNG, or in ancient Hindustan. I also reminisces the Candomble realm from Brazil, which I have seen in Maceio in 1989. It could be an entity of an indigenous belief. It is an installation and the wood is probably rosewood or mahogany, certainly precious hardwood weighing maybe…
5 kg? Basically it can stand on its own, on a pedestal fixed on the wall or on the floor.

Credentials
- Works on commission
Alann De Vuyst, utilizing eclectic mediums, weaves a tale of personal uncertainties, profound emotions, and society's intricacies. Harnessing raw art and art brut, his style merges with contemporary and visionary influences to capture emotions dynamically through drawings, mixed media installations, and digital artworks. His pieces echo the human condition, exposing poignant themes of untold stories, existential dilemmas, and life's trials.
"Alann de Vuyst’s canvas reflects an modernist view-point without moving away from his first love: the Brazilian natives. His lines and strokes speak of innocent tribal sensivity as also the heartless ruggedness of urban sophistication. In his works he combines the analysis of major issues with a feeling for stark realities of life. De Vuyst strives to transgress the confines of nationality."
The Asian Age, India, Nov. 1997
