About this artwork
The relief I set within a painted wooden frame whose bruised purples and oxidized reds pulse like a sky at the edge of storm or the afterglow of ceremony. A small white human figure stands before the work at ground level, establishing scale while enacting a kind of witness — the viewer-surrogate who has arrived after the fact, contemplating an ecstasy that is already complete, already stone.
ECSTASY engages the tradition of public relief sculpture.… Where such forms historically encode collective myth and civic virtue, this work turns the monumental toward the interior — toward a state that is sovereign, ungovernable, and finally private, even when rendered at the scale of a wall.

Aleks Rosenberg is a multi-disciplinary artist and filmmaker who resides in the United States and has exhibited and sold his works internationally. He received his BFA from Pratt Institute and MFA from Yale University School of Art. The central themes found in his works relate to the 'outside looking in' and the 'sun will always come up tomorrow'. For Rosenberg, there has always been tension between darkness and light, and as such, his compositions seek to find a balance between the two extremes. Working through series, he uses contrasting found or repurposed materials to leave clues for stories to be told.
