About this artwork
This work presents a deeply symbolic scene where love is shown as an intense, almost sacred experience, but also fraught with tension and fragility.
In the center, two figures merge in an intimate kiss. Their faces are surrounded by a circular halo reminiscent of religious iconography, suggesting that love here is elevated to a spiritual plane.
The gold covering the lower body evokes what is precious and eternal, yet it appears fragmented, worn,… almost breaking. This suggests that love, though precious, can also be vulnerable, incomplete, or wounded. It is not perfect: it is marked by experience, loss, or frustration.
Around the couple, multiple "Turkish eyes" (nazars) float in space, especially against the blue background. These symbols traditionally protect against envy and the evil eye, introducing an additional layer of meaning: love needs protection.
