About this artwork
"We've arrived on the moon and it seems like nothing to us"
From the series: Pixel Gods
"In this work, I wanted to give substance and substance to a thought by Maria Lai, the artist who taught the world to 'sew' the infinite. The title is one of her famous admonitions: an invitation to rediscover wonder in an age that seems to have lost the capacity for wonder.
Inside the resin pixels that make up her face, I chose to enshrine real fragments of… fabric and threads that belonged to the artist. I transformed the digital unit of the pixel into a small tactile reliquary, where the memory of Fiber Art merges with the transparency of contemporaneity.
For me, this work is not just a portrait: it is a bridge. I wanted to "freeze" the sacredness of its textures in the lucid time of resin, restoring physicality to an icon that today risks being trapped in the immaterial flow of screens. It is my way of mending the bond between humanity, art, and the cosmos.
Alessandro Lobino, a painter and sculptor trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sassari, favors independent material exploration, inspired by the intersection of diverse disciplines and continuous experimentation. He employs mixed techniques, conceptual core sampling, and concretizations that layer materials to create true "contemporary fossilizations." His style alternates pixelation, glossy surfaces, and chaotic traces, creating a tension between memory and the present. His works convey a profound restlessness: they invite us to delve beneath the surface to question truth, time, and the manipulation of reality.
