About this artwork
This expressive work is about strong contrasts of colour, value (light & dark) and line (straight and curvilinear). Many layers of both transparent and opaque paint, collage papers and pastes make this piece feel like it has lived a long, rich but mysterious life - hence the title.
It is painted on heavily gessoed felt paper with collage elements, and many layers of paint. It is
mounted later on MDF and then dropped into a broad white tray frame.… It is varnished with a matt varnish, giving it additional UV-protection. It is ready to hang and is both very contemporary and eye-catching. it would look good in many parts of the modern home.

Alethea Eriksson is a South African–Swiss artist based in Baden, Switzerland. Her lyrical expressionist paintings have been presented in both solo and group exhibitions across Switzerland, as well as at art fairs in Britain and Germany.
She describes her abstract landscapes—what she calls “soulscapes”—as a form of visual poetry, expressing the sense of renewal and wellbeing she experiences in nature. Her work explores the mood and energy of landscapes, skies, the sea, and her own garden, while also engaging deeply with color, line, and form.
Inspired by masters such as Monet and Cézanne, alongside Abstract Expressionists like Joan Mitchell and Cy Twombly, Eriksson creates compositions that invite the viewer to feel moved, uplifted, and immersed in a contemplative emotional space.
