About this artwork
This is an older work by Alethea E which she recently revisited. Texture used to be an important feature of her earlier work and this painting uses ash and bits of burnt wood. It suits the theme of the work - After the Fire. The texture is balanced by a very limited palette of black and white with a bit of pale pink in the sky.
It is a very atmospheric work, evocative of misty winter forests. It would look good in either a traditional or contemporary… setting.

Alethea Eriksson is a South African–Swiss artist based in Baden, Switzerland. Her lyrical expressionist paintings have been presented in both solo and group exhibitions across Switzerland, as well as at art fairs in Britain and Germany.
She describes her abstract landscapes—what she calls “soulscapes”—as a form of visual poetry, expressing the sense of renewal and wellbeing she experiences in nature. Her work explores the mood and energy of landscapes, skies, the sea, and her own garden, while also engaging deeply with color, line, and form.
Inspired by masters such as Monet and Cézanne, alongside Abstract Expressionists like Joan Mitchell and Cy Twombly, Eriksson creates compositions that invite the viewer to feel moved, uplifted, and immersed in a contemplative emotional space.
