About this artwork
This work is made up of 2 canvases, each 50cm wide. It is inspired by the moods of the sea/sky as well its vastness and energy. The narrow vertical shape was perhaps suggested by the neolithic standing stone seen on a holiday on the Orkney Islands. Alethea Eriksson is a South African–Swiss artist based in Baden, Switzerland. She creates nature-inspired abstract paintings that bring calm, spaciousness, and quiet presence into contemporary interiors. Through layered abstraction inspired by nature, light, weather, and inner landscapes, Eriksson creates paintings that invite stillness and reflection.
She describes her works — inner landscapes or “soulscapes”—as a form of visual poetry, expressing the sense of renewal and wellbeing she experiences in nature.
Inspired by masters such as Monet and Cézanne, alongside Abstract Expressionists like Joan Mitchell and Cy Twombly, Eriksson creates compositions that invite the viewer to feel moved, uplifted, and immersed in a contemplative emotional space. "
