About this artwork
The novel of the same name by Charles Dickens inspired me to create this work.
Honestly, Dickens is one of my favorite writers. I love him for his unique, inimitable style, for his imaginative language, sparkling humor and caustic satire.
In my opinion, Dickens is asking questions that are very actual today. Can I become a gentleman for money? Is there enough beautiful clothes, manners, education, free lifestyle? Does something determine the origin?… Is there anything in this gentlemanship that is worth respect? Or is it all about the person himself, whoever he is, in his inner dignity and striving for truth, for an honest life, respect for others? When you are poor, young and lonely it is easy to succumb to the temptation, it is so sweet to dream that I will have money and I will be happy. And is it really important where this money came from?
