About this artwork
I went into this piece with a few thoughts in mind: I wanted to challenge myself to use the same brush throughout the whole process, limit the variety of brush strokes, incorporate texture through the build up of paint, and stick to a warmer color palette. My art is very intuitive so I like to always leave room for fresh ideas but I think it is important to not get too comfortable in your process. This prevents work from getting stale and repetitive.…
I do not like to feel restrained when creating art but sometimes it is nice to go into a piece with a few goals in mind. I was very inspired by the red clay in south and wanted the vibrance of that to be showcased in this piece and I wanted to fully embrace acrylic paints.

Art has always been an escape from reality for Alex Watson. Vital for his well-being. Through the act of painting, he transforms negative energies into something meaningful and hopes to inspire others to do so as well. Watson primarily works with acrylics and uses a variety of mixed media tools for mark-making. His gestural strokes are organic in form, taking on geometric and angular shapes through many layers.
