About this artwork
"Peconic" was one of the first pieces completed in this series. There was an emphasis on a loose brushwork and a more saturated color palette. The artist wanted the painting to evoke the feel of the ocean at sunset without a meticulous focus on the details. There is an expressiveness and a gestural quality to the brushwork to prevent the painting from feeling overworked.

Art has always been an escape from reality for Alex Watson. Vital for his well-being. Through the act of painting, he transforms negative energies into something meaningful and hopes to inspire others to do so as well. Watson primarily works with acrylics and uses a variety of mixed media tools for mark-making. His gestural strokes are organic in form, taking on geometric and angular shapes through many layers.
