About this artwork
Pomona and Avon actually originally started as twin pieces. I worked on them together side by side - using many of the same colors. I wanted them to be companion pieces but did end up separating them during the final stages and last few layers. Pomona started to take on more peachy tones that I felt were more representative of the color palette in the southwest US along the coast. It was more warm and started to really contrast with the more wintery…
tone of Avon.
I really enjoyed playing with a wide variety of linework and different utensils during the layering process of this painting.

« Through the meditative expression of emotion, I explore the turbulence of anxiety on canvas — melding color field exploration, pattern, gestural brushwork, and acrylic pours to conjure relatable chaos. »
Art has always been an escape from reality for Alex Watson. Vital for his well-being. Through the act of painting, he transforms negative energies into something meaningful and hopes to inspire others to do so as well. Watson primarily works with acrylics and uses a variety of mixed media tools for mark-making. His gestural strokes are organic in form, taking on geometric and angular shapes through many layers.
