About this artwork
The approach for "Sargasso" was to work with a monochromatic and play with the opacity of the paints. While the composition is pretty simple, the layering process created a lot of depth and added to the complexity of the piece. There is an expressiveness and a gestural quality to the brushwork to prevent the painting from feeling overworked.

Art has always been an escape from reality for Alex Watson. Vital for his well-being. Through the act of painting, he transforms negative energies into something meaningful and hopes to inspire others to do so as well. Watson primarily works with acrylics and uses a variety of mixed media tools for mark-making. His gestural strokes are organic in form, taking on geometric and angular shapes through many layers.
