About this artwork
Fireflies is an attempt to capture the feeling of watching small points of light drifting through darkness—like tiny signals reminding you that even the quietest places are alive.
I built this piece with layers of deep blue, green, and black, creating a dense, immersive field. Small flickers of yellow and soft turquoise hover across the surface, suggesting glimmers of movement that appear and disappear.
For me, this painting is about presence within… stillness—the way something ephemeral can feel vivid and electric when it breaks through the dark. It’s an invitation to look closely and notice the hidden energy in quiet spaces.

Alex Z. Wang is a painter and visual artist with roots in Chinese fine art training and advanced studies in New York, working primarily in oil on canvas and alcohol ink on paper. He masterfully balances gestural abstraction with precisely layered color fields, offering compositions rich in movement, impermanence, and emotional complexity. His works evoke an atmospheric tension between spontaneity and control, inviting viewers into a contemplative space where fleeting memories and the beauty of transience are sensitively illuminated.
