About this artwork
This sculpture is made of nut, covered with varnish.
Cheetahs are not just not like other big cats, but belong to a separate genus, the only representatives of which are. The genus name, Acinonix, comes from Greek words meaning "thorn" and "claw." The fact is that the claws of cheetahs are only half retracted - no other cat has this. Unlike lions and leopards, whose fully retractable claws are designed to tear prey and climb trees, the cheetah's… claws are similar to spikes on sprinter sneakers and serve to perform sprinting functions: traction and fast acceleration.
