About this artwork
Shit happens!
The suffering caused by the loss of love has been a main theme in the art world for centuries.
To develop an image with a concept, an idea, an emotion, I always try looking for, appropriating images that already exist in art history and pop-culture and show them in a new light, a different way to showcase my own perception.
For this painting I chose "Ophelia", a piece by the English painter John Everett Millais, that depicts… a scene from the play: "Hamlet and My Bed" by the English artist Tracey Emin. Both works, even though from different epochs and realized in different mediums, want to depict the dramatic nature of love.
For my interpretation in form of a conceptual collage I created the title "Shit happens", which is always a very important part of my painting-process, and added the poop emoji, to de-dramatize and give a cynical and punk touch to the final image
