About this artwork
"Vanitas vanitatum et omnia vanitas."
"Paintings executed in the vanitas style were meant to remind viewers of the transience of life, the futility of pleasure, and the certainty of death."
This painting is one of my all time favorites. Not only because of its concept and aesthetics- it also reminds me of the time I was painting it, which would turn out to be more than 5 months.
The piece, inspired by the work of Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol… and Damien Hirst, who are considered to be the most influential, revolutionary artists of the last century, is a vanitas, a still-life genre.
In the end, the idea of an artist´s importance, believed in and approved by the masses, is an absurdity.
Like myths, religion and moral values, it may die in the course of history.
