About this artwork
This artwork is currently on exhibition at the Detroit Contemporary 2023 Art Salon. Will be available again in May!
Alexia’s delicate painting is both retro & surreal, influenced by fashion and artists such as Leonora Carrington. She has a passion for furniture design & oneiric scenes.
The vintage floor tiles in combination with the warm pinks, baby yellow & mint remind us of an old diner, it is musical! It makes the artist think of creamy shakes,… ice-cream and dreams. The chair’s subtle design is made from thin, stylized lines, the back of the seat resembles an ogee arch –granting the object a great femininity–, also sweet it comes, first, as powerful. The chair's name is Fer Lee.
« I looked for a window into my dreams, where pieces of life were transformed into a jungle that I had never seen. In the eyes of every flower and beast, I recognized myself. »
Alexia López Sosa is a prize-winning Mexican artist whose works have been widely exhibited nationally, as well as in France and Argentina. Three images are constants in the painter, printmaker, and sculptor's compositions, and include the mountain, the chair, and the wild herb. Sosa explores dreams and nature, and transformation through time. When she works, she tears her heart onto the canvas, draining her memories, dreams, and landscapes. She describes her art as a coded transcription of who she is.
