About this artwork
Silence is a work that represents the anonymous identity of the immigrant and the emotional weight of displacement. The faceless female figure becomes a universal symbol of those who cross borders, leaving behind roots, belongings, and even a part of themselves.
The erased face and eroded textures evoke the loss of references and the vulnerability of those displaced. Silence is not only the absence of voice; it is also a reflection of suppressed… pain, the fear of rejection, and mourning for the land left behind.
The warm tones of the turban and clothing contrast with the darkness of the background, suggesting an intimate space of resistance and resilience. This work invites reflection on the social and emotional invisibility experienced by many migrants, and on the silent strength required to rebuild oneself in a foreign land.

Alid Gerboles is a self-taught Cuban painter and digital artist with a background in the humanities, who has dedicated over a decade to abstract and symbolic art. He employs mixed media on canvas—acrylic, oil, charcoal, and graphite—fusing gestural expression, texture, layers, and human figures transformed into symbols, representing emotional maps. His style explores fragility and the ancestral in dialogue with the contemporary, using abstraction to address themes of identity, migration, and memory. His works summon introspection and silence, inviting us to confront the origin and resilience of the human spirit.
