These 3 artworks are a literal interpretation of the theme Paper. All 3 use mixed media to describe paper in its root form - a tree. The first artwork - Paper Tree - is an interpretation of a tree transformed into a cut out paper graphic, a human made concoction. I used a stamped type to reinforce this idea as well as ultimately being literal. The second artwork Recycled Paper Tree is a charcoal and pen drawn tree that has recycled paper bag leaves… in an attempt to recover the lost tree as a new form, a rebirth as an art form. The third artwork Ulterior Paper Tree has ulterior motives by using modern photo regeneration to create the reference photo which was then only loosely referenced to preserve the integrity of the work. How artists seek to adapt in the face of new technology, is to use new tools but always to make the artwork only by human hands.
