Age: 23 years I Originally from Eastern Cape, King Williams Town In Vrygrond since 2007
“It all depends on yourself. What do you really want in life? What goals do you set? Who do you choose to be inspired by. I surround myself with positive people. It might seem a disadvantage to live in Vrygrond, but it is a quite a cool place.”
After high school in Masiphumelele, Amandla went to CityVarsity to learn acting and theatre.
He is also a rapper and… writes short stories and comedies. His friends are in Joburg to make it as professional rappers. Amandla chose to stay in Cape Town and wants to become an actor.
The series will be exhibited at the PhotoDoc. Fair in Paris 10-12 May 2019. Isabel Corthier will share 20% of the profits with the people portraited.

Isabel Corthier, born in 1977 in Belgium, is a documentary photographer based in Cape Town, South Africa. Her photographic works are deeply invested in creating dignified, humanizing representations of communities that have been effected by political turmoil or other forms of conflict. Her works are powerful portraits of people in various walks of life, both intimate and resounding in their affect.
